Dear Future Friends of 100 (+) Women Who Care,

I’d like to introduce you to an amazing concept in charitable fundraising, 100 (+) Women Who Care, and invite you to be a part of this exciting group. The original chapter was founded by Karen Dunigan in October, 2006 in Jackson, Michigan, and several other chapters have formed around the country.  Our group here in DuPage County was started in February, 2007.  I’d like to update you on our progress but first, here is a brief description.

The premise of this group is for 100 (+) women to gather every three months (quarterly), and at each gathering donate $100 to a local charity/worthy cause.  Your donation is tax deductible, as each person writes their check directly to the organization, and the 100 (+) checks are given directly to the recipient, eliminating administrative issues.  The cumulative effect of 100 women each giving $100 is a grand total of $10, 000.00 (+) and can have a huge impact.

At each meeting every women present may put their name in the ‘hat’ if they have a charity they would like to present. Three names will be chosen from the ‘hat’.  Each person chosen then gets 5 minutes to make a presentation about their group. A vote is then taken by those present on which of the three they would like to support. The group with the most votes will be the recipients of our donation. This is a super-efficient way of generating lots of money without any bake sales, flyer distributions, solicitations, etc. Each person's $100 donation becomes very powerful and 100% of the money goes straight to the receiving group.

I am so happy to say that as of today, October 1, 2008, we have well over 100 members and since February, 2007 we have now supported seven different groups.  Our collective donations total over $75,000.00!

Our first recipient after our initial meeting February 13 was Jubilee Village, an apartment complex in Carol Stream, operated by Outreach Community Ministries, that serves single women and their children.  Our (almost) $10,000.00 provided a safe and secure apartment for these carefully screened and needy families.

The second charity chosen at our May 8 meeting was Frankie’s Fund. This amazing group serves families of children with a wide range of disabilities and was founded by a local doctor after her third son was born with Down Syndrome. Our $10,000 (+) was distributed to many families who have a multitude of needs.

Our third group chosen by the members on August 14 was CareLink Foundation, founded by a group of medical professionals in our area. CareLink
assists the underserved and uninsured working poor and acts as a community health resource for parents who cannot meet the medical needs of their children.

On November 13 we chose Bridge Communities, a transitional housing program in DuPage County.  This organization is committed to transforming the lives of homeless families, very often single women and their children, through partnering with talents and resources in the community
.

At our first meeting in 2008,  Friends for Therapeutic Equine Activities, (F.E.T.A.), was our recipient.  This Winfield based program does amazing therapies for disabled and handicapped individuals, primarily children, using specially selected horses and ponies.  The testimonials from parents and therapists of the children are truly moving and inspiring.

In May, SunnyRidge Family Center was our sixth beneficiary.  Our donations will help to provide free professional counseling to women with an unplanned pregnancy as well as high quality adoption programs. This amazing organization has served women and families in DuPage County for over 50 years. And, matching funds from an anonymous donor raised our donation to over $21,000.00!

Lastly, August found us supporting the Midwest Center for Homeless Veterans, located downtown Wheaton. This is a transitional living facility that provides assistance to U.S. veterans of any era for the opportunity to return to useful and productive lives by providing them with the skills for independent living.  Our donation was $11,700.00 which will contribute to support staff for this critically needed program/

Once again, please consider joining us and help make a real difference in the lives of people who live among us. Please feel free to call me or e-mail me with any questions or if you’d like more information.  Thank you from the bottom of my heart.

Dayton Ohio
Established January 2007
Total Donated:  $22,200

The Dayton, OH, chapter of 100(+) Women gathered for the first time on April 17, 2007.  We are so excited to be a part of this brilliantly simple fund-raising effort and the impact it will have in our local area.

First Recipient: Boys & Girls Club of Dayton, specifically to renovate the computer lab. To date we’ve donated $5700 to this cause, joining in their mission “to enable all young people, especially those who need us most, to reach their full potential as productive, caring, responsible citizens.”  In recent years this B&G’s Club was mismanaged to the extent that United Way dropped its funding to them.  The new director is thrilled to have us joining them in renovating their much-needed computer lab because not only do children need it for homework, they can apply for jobs and college online, they can create their own videos, music and art and they can take virtual tours of museums and places they may never see in person. We have invited the director to report to us at our October meeting and look forward to positive results. It has been our hope that others would be interested in partnering with us in this effort and we have two companies in Dayton already indicating their interest in assisting in providing computers.

Second Recipient:  Children’s Hospital a special fund designated to help parents of critically ill children take care of expenses not covered by insurance, even as small as a gas card so they can travel to the hospital. Their financial situation often becomes precarious and this fund helps them in their time of need. The Hemonc Nematology/Oncology Fund for Needy Patients will be managed by the hospital. As the result of our second meeting we will be donating at least $6400 to the selected recipient.

Third Recipient: The Dayton Chapter of 100(+) Women Who Care chose Daybreak, an emergency shelter for runaway and homeless youth, as its third recipient during our October meeting. Established in 1975, Daybreak operates our area’s only 24-hour crisis hotline and shelter for young people and has grown to include outreach, prevention, transitional housing, life-skills education, and other follow-up services for runaway, throwaway, and homeless youth ages 10-21. A new facility is in progress and our donation will furnish two lounges, for those 17 and older and those under 17. We see the value in partnering with Daybreak to eliminate youth homelessness in the Miami Valley through comprehensive and results-oriented programs.

With membership in the Dayton Chapter at 90 and an additional $500 gift from a very special dad of one of the members, Daybreak received $9500 from us. That brings our total to $22,200—in three one-hour meetings! We are thankful our group is growing and feel it is our privilege to help those in need in the Dayton area. One of our members says of 100(+) Women Who Care, “It is changing people's lives...the ones who need our help and the ones writing the checks.”
